The Women's branch of the Tannery lies right in the heart of Holt, a town near the beautiful North Norfolk coast. Holt (a name of Saxon origin, meaning "woodland") lies at the intersection of two ancient byways, a perfect location for a market town. As busy in medieval times as it is today, Holt was dramatically changed on 1st May 1708 by the devastating Great Fire of Holt, which destroyed many of the old medieval structures of the town (with some notable exceptions, including the building that now houses Byfords and the Norman church) causing some £11,000 worth of damage.
Rebuilding after the fire took place in a largely Georgian style, giving the town its distinctive atmosphere and appearance. Holt today is a popular attraction for visitors to North Norfolk, with many fine establishments including Byfords (a deli, cafe and 'Posh B&B' only a stone's throw from The Tannery), The Lawns Hotel and Casa Andalus, who produce some stunning images of the Norfolk coastline. Other famed local instutions include The Holt Chamber of Trade and Gresham's School.
Holt has a number of widely popular annual events, including the Holt Christmas Lights (the organization of which our Bull Street manager, Sarah Tribe, is closely involved with) and the Holt Summer Festival.
This shop concentrates on catering to women. Our Men's shop is directly opposite, on the other side of Bull Street.
